Financial Support for Low-Income Students

Financial Support for Low-Income Students

It is getting easier than ever for families with low-incomes to send a child to college. There are government programs that focus strictly on families in need, and try to find resources to get them through a degree program. Not all are academic-based either.

The USA Funds company provides $25.8 billion in federally funded school loans every year. This number places them as the highest student-loan guarantor agency in the nation. In addition to this, they promote many college funds and scholarships made directly to students at an economic disadvantage.

One in particular is focused on families that have been affected by the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. It was first established by one of the largest private scholarship organizations in the United States, and USA Funds contributes $500,000 to the overall available amounts.

The commitment of these agencies is bringing higher-education opportunities to many more families than ever before. Families with incomes less than $35,000 will be granted money from the national scholarship program that will give them a chance to earn a degree in a field that is much more profitable.

Another significant program that USA Funds contributes to is the Black History Makers of Tomorrow. The program is focused on high school students in Indiana who are significant contributors to their community through charitable service and leadership qualities. Each applicant is asked to answer the question “How will receiving a college education expand your role in promoting diversity?” and is then chosen if they meet the academic achievement requirements as well as being one of the top 20 essays.

Programs like these are making significant strides in promoting higher education in areas that would normally not be focused on it. Remember to include these programs in your wills and charitable giving. Promoting these programs will promote the overall economy of our country, along with helping families that truly need it.

If you need more proof, read the profile on the website about Pat Roe. Her background would never have provided for attending college. Then USA Funds stepped in and made her dream of a degree a reality. Now she is returning the favor as the USA Funds manager of philanthropy. The program is improving our society as a whole, and we are all responsible for continuing that trend.
